He doesn’t like RPing, you say?
He hopes I die of an eternally broken heart because he kills everyone and everything I love, you say?
GOOD THING IT’S MY ENTIRE LIFE.
LOOKING BACK ON TODAY
└ AU, Loras as a free spirit, Renly as an old acquaintance with conflicting dreams (insp.)”So you hate your job.”
”I don’t hate it, I just—” He sighs. “It’s just… complicated, is all.”
”So you do hate it.”
Renly flashes him a surly look—one that he’s missed, Loras realizes, even if it is directed at him. “Just get me a drink,” he says.
But the only thing Loras gives him is a knowing smirk. “If you hate your job so much, why are you still here?” When he doesn’t get an immediate response, he draws closer, leaning over the polished oak of the counter. “If you could go anywhere you wanted—right here, right now—would you?”
Despite his bitterness over the unexpected dip into his personal life, a laugh bubbles from Renly’s throat, leading Loras to grin in victory. “And where would I go?” There’s a hint of sarcasm in his voice, but his eyes are twinkling.
”Paris. Italy,” Loras suggests flippantly, settling his chin in the palm of his hand. “Japan. I hear it’s nice this time of year.” Unconsciously he leans closer, his voice lowering conspiratorially. “We could go together.” It is the first time he says such a thing. It strikes something deep within him, and when he wonders why he realizes it’s because he means it.
An indescribable emotion flickers in Renly’s eyes before he smiles, one that seems to hold a promise and one that Loras wants to keep. But then: “Maybe someday,” he says.
”Or,” Loras suggests meaningfully. “We could go when I leave. Straight there. To Italy, Japan. Wherever.” He pauses. “Come with me.”
Renly laughs, shakes his head. “I couldn’t. Your sister wouldn’t like me leaving so soon.”
”Margaery? What’s Margaery got to do with this?”
An awkward silence settles between them before it is punctuated with a small chuckle from Renly. “Well,” he begins, breaking his gaze from Loras to trace a wooden swirl on the countertop with a finger, “I’m sure you’ve heard, but I—We’re marrying, Loras. Her and I.”Since finishing college, Loras Tyrell has never stayed in one place for long. With little regard for obligations and a small pack as his only companion, he goes from place to place—taking up odd jobs, looking at the sights—but never staying for more than a week.
Family matters have him returning to his hometown after five years where his sister, Margaery, is about to be married. There, he reunites with an old acquaintance Renly Baratheon, whose family business has left him firmly fixed, his dreams set aside “for someday.” And, for the first time, Loras thinks of staying.
Oh, but Renly happens to be the groom, too.
